Maher at Offshore Europe 2011 - Monday 1st August 2011

Maher's preparations are currently well underway for Offshore Europe 2011, which is taking place in Aberdeen in September. This is one of the highlights of the Oil and Gas calendar and once again, Maher is going to be exhibiting at the show. Offshore Europe offers an important opportunity to find out about industry developments and the latest projects, as well as the chance to meet up with new and existing business partners. This year there will be around 1400 exhibitors from all around the world. This international audience gives Maher the chance to further develop our global presence, as well as reinforce our understanding of market and customer requirements.

Along with the established Oil and Gas team based in Sheffield, Maher's new external representative in Scotland, Glenn Corewyn, will also be attending the show. Glenn joins Maher at the beginning of August and brings with him a wealth of sales and metals experience. Glenn will offer local support to the Scottish market and, due to his proximity, can help Maher to react quickly and efficiently to the requirements of this important market. Offshore Europe gives him a great opportunity to acquaint himself with the market.

Maher will be exhibiting on stand 4C141 - make an appointment or call by the stand!

Maher Employees complete mammoth 40 mile walk! - Sunday 8th May 2011

Described as a '40 mile sponsored team stroll through some of the country's finest landscapes', the Keswick to Barrow walk certainly poses a challenge. Sally Harford and Adam Bradley (pictured below) bravely put themselves forward for the walk in order to raise money for Maher's nominated charity.

The walk from Keswick to Barrow in Furness originated in 1967 as a three-way competition between the crew of submarine HMS Resolution, the workers at the former 'Vickers' Shipyard and the Commercial department of Vickers based in Barrow. From there, it has evolved into an annual event seeing around 3000 people taking part. The element of competition is still very much there, with the fastest competitor completing the route in approximately 4.5 hours! BAE Systems Marine is still a proud sponsor of the event and so Maher's involvement came following an appeal from BAE for their supply chain to get involved in the event.

After a valiant effort from the pair in wet and grey conditions, they completed the walk in an impressive 14 hours and 38 minutes. Despite the many blisters, aching muscles and the inability to sit down without wincing, they raised over 620 GBP for Sheffield's Children's Hospital Charity.

Recruitment is now taking part for next year's event...

The End - At Last!

Maher Hosts BAE Forum - Tuesday 30th November 2010

As a long established supplier of BAE Systems Marine, Maher Ltd was proud to play host to BAE's most recent Submarine Supplier Forum in October. The forums are a key way in which BAE communicates with its supply chain and they cover a range of subjects from project updates and new requirements, to political decisions that are having an impact on the industry. BAE's investment and efforts to consolidate this network of suppliers by providing a wealth of information mean that Maher and other members keep abreast of industry developments and are able to react quickly and effectively when required.

October's event saw 42 representatives from a cross-section of the industry come to Maher for a presentation and tour of the facilities. This was followed by a range of presentations delivered by BAE at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Sheffield. The event was a great success and gave Maher the opportunity to showcase the high quality of facilities and procedures upon which it prides itself.

Maher's Fab Fund raising - Wednesday 22nd September 2010

Since Maher adopted Sheffield's Children's Hospital Charity as its' official cause, we have been busy! After launching our support with a raffle for an extra day's holiday, we have been putting our stamina and muscles to the test. In July we embarked on a 10 mile hike, up-hill and down-dale from Bakewell in the Peak District. Despite some challenging hills (or mountains as some now claim!) a team of 19 of us (pictured below) reached the end, raising £650 for the charity.

One of the main objectives of the charity is to enhance the medical equipment and facilities at the hospital in order to keep it at the forefront of paediatric care. Maher's fund raising is helping their current appeal to buy the latest digital X-ray, which not only emits reduced levels of radiation, but also produces higher resolution pictures, helping to facilitate accurate diagnosis.

Once we had mastered hiking, 'Team Maher' decided to look to running. A group of us, made up of all ages and abilities joined another 8000 runners to take part in the Great Yorkshire Run in September. The 10 kilometre run was completed by all of the team, cheered on by charity organisers and many supporters, making it a great day enjoyed by all. We also managed to raise in excess of £2000 for the charity.

Future fund raising is now being planned!

Maher names Official Charity - Wednesday 19th May 2010

In a bid to do our bit in the local community (as well as having some fun in the process!), Maher has adopted an official charity. Based in Sheffield's Children's hospital, the Children's Hospital Charity enhances the work of the hospital through contributing to medical research, specialist medical equipment and improving the environment for the patients and their families. Sheffield's Children's hospital is also one of only 4 stand alone children's hospitals in the country, so is a real asset to the local community. After launching our support with a raffle for an extra day of holiday, Scott Fraser (pictured below) ran the Sheffield Half marathon to support the cause. Now we have a team of nearly 20 employees gearing up to enter the Great Yorkshire Run in September through the streets of Sheffield. If you would like to get behind us and support this great cause, our Just Giving page is http://www.justgiving.com/maherltd
